Tobias Jesso Jr., inside TikTok's music strategy, and the race for the next big Rock reuinion

I can't remember the previous time a song gave me a genuine jump scare.
The song is a quiet, Beatles-y piano ballad — very pretty, but several notches more restrained than, say, Adele's "When We Were Young." Or so I thought, until the 2:51 mark, when THWACK, an enormous drum beat absolutely obliterates the mix. To my untrained ears, it seems to have sidechain compression, with the rest of the track ducking queasily under the sound of the chaotic percussion, which smashes through the arrangement like a bull in a china shop. -Exclaim!
