GENA, the piracy problem, and touring vs. residencies

Back in December, we learned the Dallas psychedelic soul singer/rapper/producer Liv.e was teaming up with veteran jazz drummer and hip-hop producer Karriem Riggins for an album under the name GENA. It's an acyonym standing for God Energy, Naturally Amazing and also a reference to Gina from Martin, all of which should help you triangulate where this duo is coming from.
Liv.e and Riggins have developed a lush, woozy world of sound that feels like time-traveling from the '70s to the Y2K neo-soul era to the more recent Brainfeeder epoch and on into the future.
Fans of Erykah Badu and Georgia Anne Muldrow need to tap in immediately. -Stereogum
