The titles do a lot of the work. ‘Syncope’ is both a musical term and a medical one, the omission of a beat, and the technical term for a faint. ‘Taconeando’ is a word used in flamenco for the heel-stamping that drives the dance from the floor up. ‘Raver’, ‘Grip’, ‘Throb’, ‘Finisher’: these are blunt, physical, and monosyllabic where her earlier work reached for the mythological. On ‘Finisher’, she collides classical riffs with glitched-out IDM, and the conflict faces inwards, not outwards, which is a useful description of the album’s temperament generally. -The Quietus
