Cadence Weapon, Record Store Day 2026, and Spotify upgrades its lyrics feature with offline access

Cadence Weapon
“Alpenflage”
Wholly Roland Empire

Back in November, the Mercury Prize-winning rapper, music critic, and former Edmonton poet laureate Rollie Pemberton — better known as Cadence Weapon — dropped "Step Out," a synth-powered track about his fly wardrobe. Today he's revealed that the song will be part of Forager, a new Cadence Weapon album coming in April, produced by Junia-T. Pemberton calls it "an exploration of fashion history in the form of classic hip-hop," adding, "This one is for the pickers, the shopkeepers, the thrifters, the stylists and the archivists."

Along with the album announcement, we get another new track, "Alpenflage." He locks in over a looped guitar sample that has Pemberton exclaiming, "This make me feel like Fela right now." I like the way he wraps things up: "I'm the worst fear of the establishment/ Smart black man, plus I'm talented/ And my victory unanimous/ No contaminant or additives/ All natural, I'm a natural/ Actual, factual/ When it come to cappin', you're the captain of the capitol." -Stereogum
