Norman D. Loco, community radio stations, and how money actually flows through the music industry in 2026

Norman D. Loco
“I Want a Beer”
Secret Friend

Rooted in luminous lo-fi psych pop circulations – much like the scratched-up prettiness of feeble little horse –  ‘i want a beer’ resembles a music that has been churned up and reconstituted over and over, its mangled remnants then hand-stitched together to form a mesmeric and bespoke piece of art. Each section of the track is marking  a whole new territory from the last – a whacked-out effect here, a rocking fuzz section here; enjoying one lead vocalist, try a second! And inflating all these beguiling patchwork aesthetics, the lyrics are also wildly scattered, ranging from the morose, to the benign, from the throwaway, the philosophical, to the plain absurd: (“do you want a lighter? // suddenly you’re a biter” is a crazy parting lyric). -So Young

RECORDING ACADEMY
MEMBERSHIP DEADLINE
MARCH 1ST, 2026

With the Recording Academy's membership application deadline coming up in just a few days, we wanted to send over some broad strokes info on the process in case you or any of your clients are interested in voting for next year's Grammys.

Recording Academy Membership Process:

  1. The first step for a new candidate is to have two fellow music professionals submit recommendation forms on a candidate's behalf. Each recommendation must be submitted via an easy online form: Current Academy members can submit their recommendations here, and non-members can submit their recs here.

It's important to note that the candidate's email on both recommendations must match.

  2. Once the two recommendations have been submitted, the candidate will receive an email to complete their profile - deadline is March 1, 2026.

  3. Following a review by the Recording Academy's Peer Review panel, approved candidates will receive an invitation by mid-July to join the Academy.
