Aimed at increasing opportunities and visibility for Australian artists, a new initiative dubbed ‘Michael’s Rule’ has received unprecedented levels of consensus. The policy, which was unveiled on May 1st, has three key pillars: [1] “every international artist must include an Australian artist among their opening acts; [2] the Australian artist must appear on the same stage at the international artist using reasonable sound and lighting; and [3] the Australian artist must be announced at the same time as the tour so that they benefit from all the marketing and promotion.”
Having racked up over 66 million downloads in its 10 years of operation, music app Musi has been a hit with thrifty young listeners who want uninterrupted listening. By tapping content from YouTube, “Musi appears to have pulled off something remarkable: Building a booming business in streaming music without taking on any of the legwork of striking deals with labels and distributors.”
