In addition to partnerships and developments from competitors like Spotify and YouTube, “the biggest blow arguably came not from UMG but the U.S. government voting to ban the platform. It’s entirely likely TikTok decided to pick its battles and compromise with UMG as the company gears up for defending its continued existence in the U.S.”

As Latin music’s growth shows no signs of slowing down, “the share of English-language content among the top 10,000 streaming tracks in the US decreased by 3.8% since 2021. Over the same stretch, Spanish-language content grew 3.8%, according to Luminate’s 2023 year-end report.”

As consumers indicate a greater sense of price consciousness in their subscription habits, Super-bundling music streaming with another type of streaming is predicted to explode in the next few years. A recent Bango study of 2,200 streaming subscribers yielded some interesting stats:

  • 82% of music subscribers have a video streaming subscription (i.e. Netflix, MAX, etc.), 69% have a retail subscription (Safeway, Amazon), 39% have a gaming subscription, and 22% have news

  • 66% said they can no long afford all of their subscriptions

  • 60% said they have cut at least one subscription to afford the rise in prices

  • More than 39% said that they downgraded at least one subscription to an ad-supported tier

  • 80% said they would prefer a service that combines their music subscription with others

  • 54% said that they would consider a super bundle if it offered cross-platform discounts

  • 77% said that they believe super-bundling is the answer to rising costs

  • 60% said they’d like to see music subscriptions bundles into their cell phone providers. Of those, 58% said they would be willing to pay a high monthly bill if their cell phone provider included a music streaming plan.

  • Only 29% said they wanted to see a music and TV bundle
