The NY Times takes a look inside the crisis at NPR, who has seen a recent streak of layoffs and internal turbulence as their weekly listeners have shrunk 30% since 2020. Speaking to employees, NPR cfo Daphne Kwan stated, “we are slipping in our ability to impact America, not just in broadcast, but also in the growing world of on-demand media.”

According to a Reuters report, ByteDance would prefer ”to shut [TikTok] down in the US if it’s unable to successfully challenge the legislation in the courts” as the app’s US business “accounts for a small share of ByteDance’s total revenues and daily active users.”

A group of over 250 prominent musical artists have signed a letter imploring the Senate to pass a comprehensive bill to reform ticketing practices. The bill, which targets resellers and bot-powered mass purchasers, is focused on three key areas: ticket price transparency, consumer protection, and increased penalties on bad actors.

Defined as a situation in which an artist’s or label’s website is the first and only place where fans can pre-order an upcoming album on vinyl upon announcement, exclusive pre-sell windows have allowed artists and their teams to convert excitement around an announcement into sales. The independent vinyl retail community has called for an end to these D2C pre-sell windows claiming the practice “disproportionately affects retailers [who] lack the resources and negotiating power to compete with larger chains or online platforms.”
